Rivers And Streams You Can Experience In Kansas

Aquatic adventures are available in Kansas right now through various options, including different rivers and streams. You can easily explore water activities all around the state and the rivers and streams available are actually more impressive than what many believe at the moment.

In Kansas we can currently find over 10,000 miles of interesting rivers and streams. Most of the streams and even many rivers are owned privately. However, we do have public rivers accessible to everyone:

  • Arkansas River
  • Missouri River
  • Kansas River

These 3 rivers are open between ordinary marks for high water on every bank. The line is really easy to be seen when you are there as it features sand, gravel and debris during an ordinary annual cycle. Activities along the trail will take you across various major cities like Kansas City, Lawrence, Topeka, Manhattan and Junction City.

Arkansas River

This is the sixth longest river in the country, and the longest of the Mississippi River tributaries. Its origins lie in Colorado and then the river goes towards the confluence with the Mississippi River, covering close to 1,500 miles. While in Kansas the river is referred to as ARK and does show really large flow seasonal reductions. As flow goes low, we see the river dividing into various small channels that flow in a shallow, broad bed. As the period is dry, on the surface the river will run quite dry and then picks up some water as it will flow. The best region to visit is definitely Wichita as there is the possibility to have a leisurely, scenic float trip.

The Missouri River is the longest in the entire North America region. It flows through Kansas’ northeastern border, actually separating Kansas and Missouri. We are faced with a river that goes through 10 states so you can easily manage to arrange a really long river trip that you would simply love. Kansas City is just one of the numerous communities settled on the gorgeous Missouri River.
