Canada is quite great for bikers since there are many interesting routes that you can be a part of. Based on where you go in the country, the experience can be really easy or quite complicated. Obviously, many of the hardcore bikers will look for a challenge while the casual cyclists will simply want to soak in the views. No matter what you enjoy, it is a guarantee that you are going to love the bike routes mentioned below.
Nova Scotia’s South Shore Bike Route
If you are not in a hurry to get to a destination and you want to enjoy your peddling, the rout is quite great. You get the opportunity of coasting right along beautiful placid inlets and peninsulas, a true soul experience. Many of the villages that you will go through are stunning, with Lunenburg, Shelburne and Chester being some of the examples you want to learn more about.
Prince Edward Island Bike Route
This is an island province and many consider it to b perfectly created for the best possible biking experience. Villages that you get to see here are properly spaced from each other and the hills are not actually present so we cannot actually talk about biking difficulty. Coastal roads will be really picturesque and you will want to go slow in order to enjoy the surroundings. To make matters even more interesting, there is a new bike path that is island wide and that offers great detours right through quiet woodlands and marshes. Do consider that route if you truly want to relax.
Montreal’s Lachine Canal
Montreal is a perfect destination for cycling lovers. This is due to the fact that the region covers a network of over 350 kilometers of bike trails. This includes exclusive cycling paths and bike lanes in city streets. Lachine Canal was actually inaugurated in the year 1824 with the purpose of allowing ships to bypass Lachine Rapids while getting to Great Lakes region. Now this canal covers an almost flat 11 kilometers path on both sides of the canal so that people can easily travel peacefully right alongside small bridges and locks. Bikes can be rent in Old Port if you do not have one with you or you are a tourist.
Quebec Route Verte Biking
In the year 2007 we saw Route Verte being officially inaugurated. It is an impressive 4,000 kilometers bike path network that goes from one part of Quebec to the other side, linking up basically all cities and regions. Canada basically modeled the Rails To Trails US program and the highly popular cycling routes found in Great Britain and Denmark. You can stop at many inns that are right along this route and that almost exclusively serve bikers. Locked and covered storage is offered for those that want to stay for a night and the meals are particularly heavy in carbohydrates to keep you going.
Stanley Park Seawall Biking
This is last on our list but not at all a route that should not be considered. It is based in Vancouver and basically goes round Stanley Park shoreline, on the English Bay and Burrard Inlet. It was built above high tide mark and offers so many breathtaking views with virtually no cars and zero hills to go over.
