Cornwall, UK, offers a surprising number of options to people that enjoy windsurfing. In fact, this is one of the premier locations that this sport’s enthusiasts can enjoy in the entire country. Based on official information offered by Windsurf Magazine, the best windsurfing locations in Cornwall, UK, are the following.
Marazion
This is a truly great windsurfing destination close to St. Michael’s Mount. The windsurfing locations are highly accessible as the main options are close to the 2 main vehicle parks in the region. You can easily enjoy options for all the skill levels, based on current conditions. You want to wait till the high tide shore dump drops. Visit Long Rock if Station House is too onshore. That is because during fickle winds, the region is sheltered and we have bigger swells. Whenever you know where rocks are, go towards Mount Straight as soon as you are launched.
Rock
Do not let the name trick you. Rock is not meant only for professionals. It is a perfect destination for windsurfers of all the possible experienced levels. The options available here are perfect for both short and long boarding. You will have tides that will be restricted around low tides and the best possible direction is from the northwest to the southeast.
The Helford
Lizard East Coast gives you access to the wonderful Helford Passage. The creek is basically perfect for the beginners, with options that are also suitable for those that are of an intermediate level and that do want to improve safely. The only problem is that many boat users will also appear in the region. It is possible to have to go through various moored boats right close to Ferry Boat Inn.
If you want to go for an area that is not crowded, consider Durgan Beach. The region is not that crowded because you need to go for a short walk in order to get to the beach. Summer parking will be a little difficult. Launching from Helford’s South side is one opportunity to consider.
Pendower Beach
This Cornwall windsurfing location can be accessed through Veryan, straight through a car park close to Pendower Hotel. You can enjoy the activity here as an expert or as a beginner. Great directions come from SSE and NE. However, you can also enjoy a great southerly or easterly swell. Make sure that you always avoid extreme side winds as they are dangerous.
Carrick Roads
Windsurfers really want to consider Falmouth Harbour as it is the 3rd largest harbor in the world. You have access to many inlets and creeks, gaining a safe and massive water region that you can experience. Based on how much water is present, we can say that there are not many launch sites present. We have 3 that are really important and that you will appreciate. Most of the beach will be great but in the western area this is not the case.
Remember that if you want to go windsurfing in Cornwall, you want to first see where you will sail. Think about the options that were mentioned first but do look at others. The idea is to find the destination first so you know what you have to take with you. In most situations you have windsurfers that will sail from a near lake or beach to where they stay.
