Kiteboarding in the country is well-developed and there are over 35,000 km of coastline available, with wonderful waves, flat water lakes and winds that are perfect for basically all riders, no matter the personal experience that exists at the moment. There are some perfect locations for those that want to learn kiteboarding and spots that should only be considered by those with a lot of experience.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Australia has to be considered for kiteboarding, mainly because of the great climate present. In fact, the climate in Australia can be described as a combination of temperate, subtropical and tropical climates. This offers many wind speed varieties.
Western Australia Kiteboarding
When you travel to Western Australia for kiteboarding, you will want to visit Safety Bay. It offers clear flat water that is sheltered by some surrounding islands. There are no boats, obstacles or swimmers present here. If you are close to Perth, you will want to have your kiteboarding sessions in Shoal Water Bay.
If you are close to Augusta, the wind blows constantly at Margaret River, giving you access to great flat water right behind the sandbar. You are taken towards waves and reefs, making the experience quite enjoyable.
New South Wales Kiteboarding
In New South Wales you will want to visit Old Bar. The water is crystal clear, flat, smooth and the location will feature an opening towards the ocean. Various riding areas and sand flats are available. Victoria brings access to St. Kilda as a great opportunity, with West Beach being quite a great spot for those that want to learn the sport.
Queensland Kiteboarding
Visit Noosaville, located on Sunshine Coast. The white sandy beaches here are popular among travellers but the warm watter and the waves will be popular for you as a kiteboarder. The winds are consistent almost the entire year. Close to Melbourne you will have a chance of going to St Kilda if you want to if you are interested in freestyle kiting.
Brighton Beach and Contarf in general are in Queensland and are great spots for you to learn how to kiteboard. We have access to quite a massive size and shallow water depth. Learning is thus really easy and safe.
Close to The Great Barrier Reef you will want to enjoy kiteboarding at Port Douglas because of the 13.5 annual wind speed average and the tropical climate present. Also, do visit Agnes Water, also in Queensland, because of the sea breezes present, making kiteboarding a great opportunity with flat water and 310 days of the year that are sunny.
