Destination weddings are on the rise, with plenty of tailored advice from experts for planning one, but what about proposing abroad? Well, it’s always been popular because when it comes to popping the big question, location can make all the difference. Whether it’s because the place means something to you or is part of a special trip, proposing abroad will transform this magical moment into an unforgettable experience.
Europe is brimming with stunning backdrops and hidden gems, so here are some of the most unique proposal spots that promise to sweep your partner off their feet.
Lake Bled, Slovenia

We’ve chosen this destination because it’s particularly picturesque with its shimmering emerald waters, quaint island church, and the majestic backdrop of the Julian Alps. You can rent a traditional boat (a Pletna boat) and journey out onto the waters. The church bell is famous for granting wishes, so it could be a great place to propose, but in order to get your wish you must climb a 99-step staircase to the church, ring the bell three times and believe in God.
The Cliffs of Moher, Ireland
Another dramatic water-based suggestion, the Cliffs of Moher stand high above the crashing Atlantic waves and offer a dramatic, breathtaking view. For a more intimate proposal, you can choose a secluded spot along the walkway. There might be occasional walkers, but it isn’t a busy destination. The stunning vistas and the sound of waves crashing below create an intimate atmosphere perfect for your heartfelt moment.
Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany
Dubbed the “Fairy Tale Castle” (for good reason – check out the photos), Neuschwanstein is a stunning location that feels straight out of a storybook. Located in Bavaria, you can propose with a panoramic view of the castle or within the enchanting gardens. The picturesque landscape makes it an ideal setting for an unforgettable proposal, particularly in the golden hues of sunset.
Rue Crémieux, Paris, France

An ever-popular destination for proposals, Paris might feel like an obvious choice. But we’ve highlighted a lesser-known spot in the city tucked away in Bastille district. It’s known for its enchanting and colorful houses which line the cobblestone street, so you could take a stroll and time your moment to suit. Rue Crémieux captures the essence of love in the City of Lights, but with fewer crowds.
Diamond Beach, Iceland

Last but not least, we’ve chosen a location that certainly has the right name. Diamond Beach is named after the icebergs that drift ashore from the nearby Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. They resemble large diamonds along the seashore and sit in contrast to the black volcanic sand, so it feels like an otherworldly place. It’s certainly unlike any other beach you’ve seen before. You might get even luckier if your partner says yes and you see some of the wildlife on offer, including Icelandic seals and orca whales.
With any proposal, choose a location that resonates with you. Whether that’s a majestic landscape, historical landmarks, or serene natural setting, it’s a moment you’ll remember forever and will always be unique to you and your partner.
