If you have ever dreamed of paragliding in France then you should know where the best places to do so are and how you can get there. There are many beautiful scenic spots in France meant to help you enjoy this pursuit and here are some of them.
Mieussy
Mieussy is a place located at 50km west of Chamonix. It is the birthplace of paragliding which first occurred in 1974. The Chamonix region is viewed by many as the Mecca of paragliding with many people flocking to the region to enjoy the sights and scenery that include huge thermals and enormous peaks each year.
Mieussy really is one of the best paragliding regions in the entire world. The paragliding season here begins in March and ends in October although you can paraglide during other months as well although it is not highly recommended. One of the best spots in this region is Mont Blanc.
Annecy
Other major hotspot for paragliders are Annecy and Lake Annecy. The best time to paraglide in this region is in the summer. This is mainly because the weather is warmer during this period of time. The registered temperature is usually above 25 Celsius in the summer. A popular take off location is Montmin on Col de la Forclaz at a height of 2750ft above the lake. Montmin is the main paragliding site in Annecy.
Peak Airsports based in Annecy features paragliding holidays around Lake Annecy and Le Grand Bornand. They offer accommodation as well as instruction and guidance if you need it and they also offer important daily weather information. Significant transport sites are also included. Even if you are a total beginner you can enjoy the delights of paragliding in this area of France.
Languedoc
Paragliding is also popular in Languedoc. Fewer people venture to this region so there is actually less air traffic here. There are stunning mountain ranges as well as castles, including the castle of Quéribus that can be viewed in this amazing region. However care needs to be taken in this area as there are fields of vines which would not be comfortable to land in. It is more the region meant for paragliding experts who know how to follow all the necessary steps in order to have fun and be properly secured during paragliding.
Chamonix
Chamonix also offers tandem Paragliding from the Brevent ski area and while doing so you will be able to see fantastic views of Mont Blanc as well as The Glacier des Bossons which is the biggest Icefall in Europe. Furthermore, in the end you land near the town center. While paragliding you will be able to see magnificent sights such as Mer de Glace and Grand Jorasses. All flights take off from an icy glacier.
Western Alps
The Western Alps are by far the most popular choice for paragliding in France and include the Rhone-Alpes and Côte d’Azur. The main flying sites include Salève, Annecy, Laragne and St. Vincent. When visiting these areas you can be sure to gain accommodation.
Popular seasons are from December to April and from July to August and it is best to avoid these areas during the off season period of time because there will be lack of accommodation and the conditions will not be suitable for paragliding.
France has many beautiful areas where you can paraglide and have fun. Enjoy it!
