5 Best Wreck Dive Sites In Aruba

Aruba features so many more wreck dive sites than you may initially imagine. You actually have many different wrecks that you can explore and choosing will be a little difficult. We constantly see divers coming from all around the world. It is a great experience to spend some days exploring wrecks in Aruba. That is quite obvious when you consider those that we will talk about in the following lines.

Antilla Wreck

Antilla Wreck

SS Antilla is wonderful. It was a large cargo ship that was meant to transport items between the Caribbean and Germany. The first launch was in the city of Hamburg in the year 1939. In the year 1940 the ship ended up scuttled. The very captain decided to set it on fire in order to not surrender it. This lead towards the popular Aruba Ghost Ship dive site.

This wreck is around 400 feet long and you have a lot that you can explore during your dive. To make matters even more interesting, this wreck diving site is currently accessible to absolutely all skill levels, with something for everyone.

Jane Sea Wreck

Jane Sea Wreck

The wreck is basically what remained of a freighter, with a length of around 250 feet, located at a depth of around 90 feet, placed in an almost upright position. When you dive you will love the tropical fish that surround you and the corals. If you are a little lucky, you will get rays and turtles. The only problem is that you need to be experienced when you dive since the currents are quite strong.

Airplane Wrecks

Airplane Wrecks

You rarely have the opportunity of scuba diving and visiting a wreck of an airplane. In Aruba you can actually experience 2 airplane remains close to each other at the Airplane Wrecks dive site. Since it is so rare to be able to dive in an airplane wreck, you will surely want to visit it.

The 2 planes that you are going to see are DC-3 and S-11. These were intentionally sunk with the purpose of creating an artificial reef. S-11 sank in the year 2004 and DC-3 reached the depths in the year 1999. S-11 is almost intact with the nose being the only one really affected. The marine life present is also really interesting.

Pedernales Wreck

Pedernales Wreck

This is a wreck that was a rather large oil tanker that ended up being torpedoed during the World War II conflicts by Germany. Many large tanker pieces are spread all around the dive site. It is possible to find everything you would imagine from cabins to lavatories. When speaking about marine life, you will see angelfish of various sizes and the wreck dive site is accessible for all the skill levels.

Debbie II Wreck

Debbie II Wreck

Debbie II is the one wreck you want to try as a beginner diver in Aruba since it is quite easy. Much marine life is present and you will appreciate the clarity of the water. Many pictures can be taken. The history of the site is not as rich as with other wrecks. We are talking about a fuel barge that was sunk on purpose in the year 1992 in order to create a helpful artificial reef. This lead to the creation of a barge of 120 feet long called home by lobsters, rays and corals, just to mention some of the marine life visible.
