Fiji is renowned around the world as being what is known as the “Soft Coral Capital Of The World”. That is mainly because of how many colourful corals exist and the variety available, hosing so many fish. As a simple example, we are faced with over 35 angelfish and butterfly fish species that swim in the Fijian waters. Hundreds of species are available for those that want to visit.
What is interesting is that all the Fijian islands have evolved to welcome divers from all around the world. You can so easily find diving operations right at the resort where you stay since there are not many resorts that do not offer such a facility. Many of the resorts offer equipment that is available for rent purposes but availability can be a concern. It is always a good idea to take your scuba diving equipment from home.
You can easily enjoy great Fiji scuba diving in Mamanuca Islands, which are really visited. This does include the highly documented Pinnacle with coral that is rising around 18 meters from the floor of the lagoon. The problem with the scuba diving experience here is only that the region is crowded. It is really rare to have dive sites just for yourself.
In Fiji you want to consider the Beqa Lagoon. You have great soft corals present at Frigate Passage and the orange corals at Side Streets are quite uncommon. Obviously, since you are in the region, you will want to consider scuba diving in Viti Levu so you can see its hard corals. Shark diving is available at the Pacific Harbour with diving masters attracting these majestic creatures through feeding.
To the south of Viti Levu, you will want to visit Kadavu for its Great Astrolabe Reef. This particular diving location is well-known because of the steep outside walls that feature both hard and soft corals. The manta ray concentration here is the largest in Fiji. To the north of Viti Levu, you want to go to Rakiraki. Here you can find various canyons and tunnels together with soft corals.
While many of the dive locations that are popular also feature great beaches, this is not the case with Ovalau Island and Levuka. These are just really impressive dive sites you can visit. There are shipwrecks present close to the Levuka harbour and the soft corals close to Wakaya Island are very beautiful.
If you do love soft corals, you will want to visit the Somosomo Strait. It is located between Taveuni and Vanua Levu and is the most famous of the soft coral sites in Fiji. Taveuni is home to Rainbow Reef and the popular Great White Wall, which is covered in corals of various colors from 23 meters deep to 60 meters deep. This makes it a popular diving in Fiji destination. Off of Taveuni, close to Matagi and Qarnea, you find Purple Wall and Mariah’s Cove, both being interesting scuba diving destinations to consider.
On the whole, we are faced with so many tremendous scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities in Fiji. Those mentioned above are just some of those that you want to consider. Make sure you research as much as you can about where you want to go to in Fiji. There is a pretty good possibility that you will find something that you will love.
