Cairo, Egypt, is not the city that you would want to go to in the event you are looking for some active pursuits. Egypt has such opportunities that are available but not many will be found in the capital. However, you will most likely land here if you travel by plane and if you have some free time and you are looking for outdoor fun, you want to know what you can enjoy. There are basically 3 main activities that we can mention and that you can consider.
Golfing In Cairo
Few expect the numerous options that are available in Cairo when looking at golf. The JW Marriott hotel close to the airport is an option to take into account. If you are looking for a historic course you can visit the Mena House Oberio. It actually opened in the year 1889. It is an 18 hole course with pyramids in the background. A modern option is the Katameya Heights Golf and Tennis Resort, with 27 holes close to a wealthy housing estate area right at the edge of Cairo.
Horseback Riding
When considering Egypt we tend to think about riding camels but horseback riding is actually pretty big in the country. Cairo is perfectly located in the Giza plateau, which offers a perfect atmosphere and a world of space to experience horseback riding. Both expat residents and visitors love riding. This is why the area can be a little crowded, especially when travelling to Nazlet es-Samaan. However, you will not be able to get too close to the pyramids as it was possible in the past. A better option for tourists would be the International Equestrian Center. It is a really large stable that has various options you can take into account. Practice rings are available for learning how to ride but going into the desert is definitely why you would want to visit the center.
Tennis
There are 2 great cement courts that are available at Nile Hilton, close to a bard and a swimming pool. The rate is around $14 per hour during mornings and a little more during the afternoon. You can play with professional players though, which is a great extra. It is also worth considering Cairo Marriott since it has hard-surface courts that are well-maintained, pretty popular and discreetly placed. Rates for playing tennis here will vary so you do want to contact the hotel in advance to see what you will be asked to pay.
