Cycling In Ibiza – The Other Side Of The Clubbing World

Ibiza is renowned all around the world for the clubbing scene present but partying every moment of the day and night is definitely not something that everyone wants. Besides this wonderful club scene, Ibiza offers many interesting travel activities that you can be a part of, including cycling. Ibiza has a really beautiful coastline.

In the past few years we saw a constant increase in cycling tourism. The popularity of the activity has been on the rise and now there are various tour operators that offer a cycling holiday. Local economy is actually now offering many interesting incentives to those that are interested in cycling or simply enjoying nature in a different way. What many do not know is that cycling is now regarded to as being very important in Ibiza, with many high profile biking competitions that are available all year round.

Outdoor pursuits in general are great in Ibiza because of the mild climate present. You will surely want to visit during Autumn and spring as they are the most appropriate times for cycling but you can also enjoy the activity during Summer months, even if temperatures often reach 40 degrees. Many hire shops and companies now cater for the needs of the cyclists. There are even some flight companies that will allow you to transport bikes without an extra fee.

When in Ibiza, you can take advantage of clearly marked tracks that take you cross the countryside. There are hundreds of kilometers currently available. Also, there are maps and information boards that will indicate routes. Keep in mind that the tracks are ranked based on ability level necessary. You will want to look at gradient and the various points of interest that you will come across like windmills, watch towers and monuments. We have access to 20 routes that are well-planned. Most of them go through mountains and alongside the coastline.

Some examples of great cycling routes in Ibiza include the following recommendations:

  • Bay Of San Antonio – This is a really easy cycling route that comes at a leisure pace. It covers 12 kilometers from the bay towards the South West. Cyclists are going to go pass many beaches and coves, with the Port Des Torrent being highly popular, just as Cala Bassa. You will go right along Cala Conta, which is a paradise for snorkelers.
  • Number 13 Route – This is a moderate cycling route that covers 17 kilometers. It is circular and starts from Sant Eularia. You will surely enjoy the Santa Gertrudis agricultural village as it houses one of the largest of the churches in Ibiza, dating from the year 1797.
  • San Josep Route – This is a cycling route that is perfect only for the cyclists that are experienced and in a proper physical condition. It is around 60 kilometers long and can be quite challenging. There are various villages that you will go past like Cala Jondal, Es Torrent and San Josep. Do be sure that you stop at Torre De Savinar and that you visit the Pirates Tower.
