Dallas is not famous for outdoor activities, in fact, it was named the “worst outdoor city in America” by some journalists. However, Dallas is home to many local parks that provide many opportunities for fun outdoor activities for both tourists and locals. The beautiful weather allows people who visit Dallas and locals to participate in various outdoor events organized by the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, to go boating down the river in Trinity River Audubon Center while discovering the regional flora and to jog and bike in White Rock Lake Park, a park well-loved by people who live in the city. If you are in the city for a business trip or on a family vacation, there are plenty of outdoor activities and beautiful places you can enjoy during your stay.
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden
We mentioned that the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden organizes many events throughout the year. However, if you are in the city for a short period of time and there are no ongoing events during your stay, don’t hesitate to visit this place. The blooming flowers, lush trees and the perfect lawns definitely deserve a visit.
Texas Discovery Gardens
Another beautiful place with amazing flowers, Texas Discovery Gardens is a paradise created by botanists who shaped 10 different themed gardens that feature various plants with wonderful scents. From blooming rose gardens to tropical plant gardens, visiting Texas Discovery Gardens is a wonderful learning experience for children and a relaxing place for adults.
Fair Park
Fair Park is the place that shelters a variety of cultural exhibits that range between a collection of Art Deco architecture, a planetarium, 8 museums, an aquarium for children and the Texas Discovery Gardens we already talked about.
Dallas Zoo
Children will be more than happy to visit Dallas Zoo and to admire a variety of wildlife. The zoo is home to almost 8000 animals and it also has a spot where children can try pony rides. When it comes to the wildlife, visitors can choose from many exhibits or they can visit all of them. Primate Place, Giants of the Savannas, Wilds of Africa and Snout Route are just a few of the exhibits opened for visitors.
Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary
Since we are on the topic of wildlife, Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary located in downtown Dallas is another great place where tourists can enjoy the outdoors. From a wide range of trails and gardens that can be explored to a honey bee observation hive and a butterfly garden, there are many things that can be seen in this park.
Katy Trail
Those who want to run or bike while in Dallas, should visit Katy Trail, a place where they can feel safe day and night and where they can wander on great trails while admiring the beautiful surroundings.
Trinity River Audubon Center
The Trinity River Audubon Center is a great place where family of birders can introduce their children to the amazing experience of birding. Children can also learn about the importance of conservation at the Children’s Discovery Garden while adults can explore the trails and admire the beautiful vegetation that includes cottonwood trees, pecan and black willow.
